In addition, the lawyer can help create a legal strategy for you based on your cases strengths and weaknesses.

Yet not every divorce lawyer is the same, and it is important for you hire an attorney who has the skills and experience right for your divorce case. For example, if you anticipate that your case may involve issues related to alimony, then you should consult with a Taylor County divorce attorney who has experience with handling alimony issues.

Whether you live in Elmwood, Abilene Heights, Lytle or in downtown Abilene, you will want to consult with a number of lawyers to find the best one for you. Questioning each attorney you consult with is a major part of the search process.

Background Questions for an Abilene Divorce Attorney

When you prepare to meet with a lawyer, you should think about what information you want to know about the attorneys background. Important details may include his or her work history and education.

The following are examples of questions you may want to ask your prospective attorney:

  • Where did you go to receive your undergraduate degree? What was it in?
  • Where and when did you graduate from law school?
  • How many divorce cases have you worked on this year? How many divorce cases do you typically handle at once? Have you ever handled a case like mine?
  • If my spouse and I fight over the custody of our children, will you be able to argue on my behalf for my custody rights?
  • Do you have any other previous work experience that you would like to tell me about?

Getting a Case Assessment

Besides learning about your potential Abilene divorce attorney, you will also want to know what he or she thinks of your case. This is why it is important to ask case-assessment questions.

But before you ask anything, the lawyer will need to know some details about your marriage. For example, he or she will need to know whether or not you share custody of your children with your spouse. You financial situation may also be of importance, so you should supply him with copies of financial statements, such as a tax return or bank statements. What assets you own, such as a house or a car, and how much debt you owe are important pieces of information as well.

Help with pro bono divorce lawyer

Hello, I am a fulltime father of two girls (full custody and gardianship) I have had an uphill battle before the courts representing myself as a voice for the children of our marriage, I have tried to divorce the other party, however like everything else this has been contested, the date of seperation was contested, I do believe to be to duck taxes. Anyways somehow the mother has retained a lawyer to proceed with divorce and I am looking for any help I can in this matter, so if you know someone that may help represent a very tired of court father, please let me know. Thank You for any consideration in this matter

Divorce Help or Pro Bono

I reside in FL and I must say that the system here is really slow. I need help with reviewing my divorce papers. I've already submitted him to child support services.....it's been almost 2 years and nothing. I've tried legal aid and they say I don't qualify as I wasn't in an abusive marriage. Go figure that's a requirement.
I would need a lawyer who needs to do their required pro-bono hours. Or I would just need a recent law graduate to review it and make sure that I have protected myself and kids. This man says he doesn't have money but I have proof otherwise and he is making my life a living hell.
